Sound Massage is a form of healing technique performed with the creation of vibration field. This field is created with the help of singing bowls. It is recorded that the origin of this healing technique is rooted in the Vedic healing. In the eastern ideology, it is believed that if the humans were in tune with themselves and the environment then that person will be able to maintain the life and creativity. This healing technique was originated some 5000 years ago.

The sound massage as of today was developed only in the early 1980s. In this period, a German engineer, Peter Hess became interested in radiesthesia, the science of vibrational fields in the human body. He studied effects of sounds on the mind and body of people in Tibet and Nepal. He focused more on the traditional music. During the study, he learned the world and the people are made through vibrations as per ancient Tibetan teachings. In Tibet, the holy mantras, recited during daily prayers, are regarded as the most important sounds as these sounds produce rhythmic vibrations through the voice. He also learned that the Tibetan ideology believes that each and every person is created with unique sound and this sound is the key to health and harmony.

He learned from Nepal that the people who vibrate harmoniously are healthier than the person who sounds creepy. But these creepy sounded persons when listened to harmonious sounds will start to heal and will be healthy.

Therefore these learnings from Tibet and Nepal led him to formulate a healing technique based on the sound produced by antique singing bowls. It is then called sound massage. It is proved that this method helps the body's cell to be in a state of harmony by producing healing vibrations.

Sound Massage: the process

wellness

The massage is conducted with the help of singing bowls. The number of the bowls may depend upon the therapists. Some of the therapists also include physical massage after sound massage. In the therapeutic intervention, the singing bowls are placed near the body of the clients and it is struck individually with the help of mallet. The bowl is again struck, after the sound completely dissipates. This ringing of the bowl continues for some time. At the meantime, the client is allowed to relax the body and is instructed to listen the sound and take a deep breath.

If the therapeutic intervention includes physical massage, the therapists apply pressure to the points on the feet, hands, and head. At the end of the therapeutic session, the singing bowl is placed on to the client's back and are struck in turn. It is believed that when the bowl is struck while placing it on the back, the vibrational energy travels into the cells of the client to promote healing from within.

The sound massage can also be done at home after the training from the trained professionals.
