As I already mentioned that the training session with Mr. Santosh was awesome and we learned a great deal of information. The participants not only learned about the techniques but also other information about the bowls. We also had a brief informal question answering session during the lunch break. What I loved about the training session is the techniques, clearly explained and demonstrated. One of the singing bowl healing techniques that he shared was for insomnia.

Insomnia

insomnia

Insomnia is also referred as sleeplessness because people with this disorder have difficulty in falling asleep or staying asleep as long as desired. Insomnia may cause independently or as a result of another problem. Typically, psychological stress, chronic pain, heart failure, hyperthyroidism, heartburn, restless leg syndrome, menopause, certain medications, and drugs such as caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol can cause insomnia. The treatment module for insomnia is non-medication based treatment, medications, and alternative medicine. Most of the people use modern medication to ease out the problems immediately but they don’t know about the side effects. Non-medication based treatment consists of therapeutic interventions, relaxation techniques, whereas alternative medicines are a use of herbs to reduce insomnia. This both method slowly improves the condition without any side effects.

Singing bowl healing approach is one of the approaches for non-medication based treatment. Through researches, it has been shown that sound therapy works well for people suffering from insomnia and fosters relaxation.

Singing bowl healing technique

singing bowls therapy

Mr. Sharma goes on explaining the procedure of treatment for insomnia. First, he explained about the arrangement in order to continue the treatment. He shared that the client is allowed to be in sleeping position. It is better to use larger singing bowls having 10" or more size in diameter because if the bowl is larger, the vibration will be deeper and it will foster the relaxation. Along with the vibration of the singing bowl, it is better to include chanting of mantras for the effectiveness of the healing process. An alternative arrangement is to place the singing bowls above the head, on a singing bowl cushion. We can also use massage table to perform the therapeutic session.

To start, the bowl is placed in the palm just a couple of feet away from the client. It is played by striking with the help of mallet to produce deep vibration. The bowl is then brought to 3-4" above the client's crown chakra until the vibration finishes.

Then for about 30 seconds, the complete silence is maintained in order to promote brain waves. For the second one, the bowl is stroked at a distance of 2 ft. away from the head. It is then placed 3-4" above the crown chakra until the vibration finishes.

The process is repeated for 5 times and it takes approximately 10 minutes to complete the session. The mantra was also chanted alongside the playing the singing bowl to get more effective results.

The demonstration

After the explanation of the process, Mr. Sharma invited one of the participants to be a volunteer. He demonstrated the process. He asked the volunteer to be in sleeping position. He then placed singing bowl above the head on a singing bowl cushion. He clarified that when we place a singing bowl in our palm, it may be difficult for us to hold it till the session completes. That's why placing on the cushion helps to solve this difficulty. He showed the whole process and even chanted the mantra to accompany the vibration.

After the demonstration, the volunteer shared his introspection. He felt very relaxed with positivity filled in the body. He also shared that at one time he almost fell asleep due to comfortableness.
